The “winmail.dat” file can contain attachments, contact files (.vcf) or calendar files (.ics) as well as a rich text or HTML version of the email body. TNEF’s Enough can open the “winmail.dat” file and allow you to extract the attachments.”

1 – Why doesn’t this app work for me?
Make sure it is a winmail.dat file that you are trying to open with this app!

a) Files such as just a .dat (not winmail.dat) are special data files (hence the name!), and only the software which created them can open them. They can’t be opened using this app.
b) A .wmv file is NOT a winmail.dat file, even though it looks similar! It’s a ‘Windows Media Video’ file which can’t be opened with this app.
c) An ‘Untitled Attachment’ or a ‘MIME’ file or an ‘.eml’ file is NOT a winmail.dat file, and this app should not be used to open this type of file.

2 – How do I open / view / edit the files which are contained inside my winmail.dat file?
This app will ONLY open the winmail.dat attachment, but for files contained inside you will need their own apps.
The Winmail File Viewer app is a simple app to open winmail.dat (TNEF encoded) files, so please don’t expect it to do anything more.”

4. Winmail Reader

Download the App on the Apple Store by clicking this Button
“Winmail Reader is ultimate tool for reading “winmail.dat” attachment files on iPhones, iPads and iPod touch. Winmail Reader decodes “winmail.dat” file, and allows any attachments contained in them to be opened, read, saved or e-mailed.

* * * Winmail Reader for Mac is also available on the Mac App Store. * * *

Winmail.dat files are in fact TNEF format (Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format). Microsoft Outlook e-mail program for Windows send e-mails as TNEF. Most other e-mail programs, including Mail, do not understand TNEF. If your e-mail program doesn’t understand TNEF, you may only see an attachment named “winmail.dat” that you cannot open. The easy-to-use solution to circumvent this problem is provided by Winmail Reader.

◆ Decodes “winmail.dat” files and list all attachments contained in it including email message.

◆ Inbuilt quick-look preview to view attachments. Tap on attachment button to popup quick-look preview.

◆ Allows attachments files to Copy to… another application, Save to Files, Copy, Print, share file to nearby iOS devices via AirDrop and more… Long press on attachment button to show share action options.

◆ Resend entire decoded email as it is with message and extracted attachments.

◆ Creates, edit and adds Microsoft Outlook Appointment and Meeting to iOS Calendar. It also reads embedded note.

◆ Creates and adds contact address card into iOS Contacts.

◆ Reads nested message in full RTF format as separate file.”

5. Winmaildat Opener

Download the App on the Apple Store by clicking this Button
“Winmail.dat Opener is a free app to open those common ‘winmail.dat’ attachments. This app is free of charge and fully functional, giving you access to the files without any need for further in-app purchases. The optional in-app-purchase will remove ads.

Our app registers as a handler for .dat files. It is launched when you tap to open the “winmail.dat” attachment, enabling you to see a list of its contents. You can then preview, resend or print the contained files or save them to an album.

This app will extract the winmail.dat on your phone or tablet, it does not require an Internet connection for this process. As our app is ad-supported, it has to ask for permission to access the Internet, despite the fact that the actual extraction process does not require an Internet connection.

Kindly note that not every file ending with .dat is a winmail.dat file. So, before submitting a one star review stating that our service didn’t work, please ensure that your file is indeed a winmail.dat file and not one of a hundred different file types with a .dat extension.”
